Skip hire: Duration

skip-yardWhen you hire a skip, the longer that the skip is your responsibility, the more money it’ll cost you. So you’ll want to make the whole exercise as short - and cost effective – as possible.

On average, most customers rent a skip for between seven and ten days - although this period can be extended. At the other end of the scale, many skip hire companies will allow you to hire a skip for as short a time as one day. Some, though, insist on a longer, minimum hire period.

If there’s insufficient space or access to allow a skip to stand entirely inside the boundaries of your property, you have to ask your local authority for a skip hire permit, covering the period for which you intend to hire a skip. You’ll need to make sure you don’t fall foul of the permit conditions or any parking suspension that needs to be in place.

The maximum duration of a single skip permit is 28 days - although should you need to hire a skip for longer than this, you can apply for a skip permit renewal.
